If you are traveling through Mobile and you are craving some good Vietnamese (and Chinese) food, you have to check out Yen Restaurant. It's worth getting off the highway a bit and you get to see a nice area of Mobile. On our drive from Texas to Florida, we like to stop over in Mobile as it's a little bit over the halfway mark. This time, while we ate in Mobile, we pressed on after dinner.
This restaurant was awesome - good service, great food, decent pricing. I highly recommend it and would definitely eat there again. Mark and I enjoy using our phone apps to find good eating options - anything light. We just don't often do burger stops anymore. Hope you give Yen a try!
This is our drive to Fort Davis to visit our son - what a lovely area. A beauty that is very unique, almost desolate but not quite. Rather reminded me of visiting Fallon, Nevada. It was our first time to that area and we hope to go back in different weather to see what the difference would be. We enjoyed the cold weather a great deal and stayed at the Indian Lodge at Fort Davis National Park. Good deal but the bed hurt our backs (too soft) and there's ZERO wifi in the rooms. There is an on-site restaurant and some of the time, you can find a cell signal if you need it. Going down into town solves the technology issue easily. This is the Black Bear Restaurant on-site.
...like I love pines, then you would love the drive along IH-10 from Texas to Florida. Especially the stretch from Louisiana through the Florida panhandle - such lovely trees line the highway. I love it and so does Mark. It is so different from driving in Texas, where one can see the horizon. Different kind of beauty I have learned to appreciate.
I was thinking of a good buddy and our travels for work and this came to mind - looks okay, doesn't it? EXCEPT that there was no wall separately the bath from the rest of the room. It was weird. And then I thought, well, that's okay I guess. No wall is okay. A little weird to use the bathroom with no walls - felt like I was outside for some reason. But then the next morning I turned the water on and the shower head was YUCKY! I didn't know I'd have such an aversion to a dirty shower head but I did. This was at the Hampton Lake B&B in FL. It was too odd for me. The next trip to that site, I stayed in Gainesville and drove the 20-30 minutes to the plant. :-)
Have you tried a Springhill Suites Hotel lately? We just did a couple of weekends ago in Rosenberg, Texas. We really liked it! The decor was really refreshing, and not because it was a new building. I loved the blues and the splash of orange. And the room was really nice. I like the furnishings - all comfortable and modern. I felt like I was in an IKEA catalog. Really. Free internet service that was stable and fast. That's hard to find nowadays, sadly, even with our home service of Time Warner. Booo.
