Doubletree Hotel, Claremont, CA

Sometimes room service is nice

Back to the Doubletree. They offer room service which is something that I love to see. There's just something very fun about room service to me and once in a while, I let myself enjoy it. I couldn't resist the French Toast though it was not as scrumptious as I would have liked. Just so you know. The coffee was very good though not enough. The young man who delivered it told me a secret (according to him). You can request a small pot of coffee and the cost doesn't increase much or you can go to the restaurant and get FREE coffee. And it's Starbucks coffee. Good to know for when I go back next month. I just need to bring a coffee mug. Coffee out of paper doesn't taste as good to me and out of styrofoam is even worse. Of course, if I'm desperate, I won't complain!

You'll see a lot of things in Austin

in Austin

This is from our "travels" to and through Austin, Texas, some time ago. I just think it's worth sharing; I had not seen it in a while on my Flickr. LOL. If you haven't been to Austin lately, it's full of interesting characters. I haven't seen a pet rider before when I snapped this shot. I think he should have a helmet for his pet.

Doubletree Hotel, Claremont, CA

Doubletree Welcome

Did you know that you get a warm chocolate chip cookie upon check-in at the Doubletree!?!?! And it was good, too. If you recall a year or two ago, on one of my blogs, I wrote that Midwest Airlines served fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies upon take-off. Well...Doubletree's cookie is even better than that. I'm just saying...these efforts are redefining "warm welcome" for me when I travel. I feel quite pampered. Speaking of pampered, there is also a day spa at this hotel. Haven't been in there but it's nice to know it's there should my day be so trying that I need some attention. They're open until 8pm. Nice.

Did you notice Wolfgang Puck is in hotel rooms now? Gourmet. And you get two bottles of water. That's nice, because I don't drink from the faucet in hotels. Most places, it smells slightly funny.

And below, I love it when they give us Neutrogena. It's the kind of soap that doesn't leave a residue. It's always a funny feeling when you stay somewhere with hard water and low quality soap...no matter how long you rinse, that feeling never leaves.

Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam from the air

Another shot from the air. I love seeing things from the plane; it's the only time you can really get a real sense of how much space we have. I didn't get to see the dam on any past trips but it's still neat to see it from the air. The water is so beautiful. I saw it again today when I flew over Vegas and actually saw the winding river from the dam...gorgeous, the way it winds through the mountains. Maybe one day I'll make it down there.

Reno, NV

Museum of Art in Reno

This very unusual building is the museum of art in Reno. I didn't have time to visit but wish I did. I love art museums.

Pho in Reno, NV

Pho Ga

I had Vietnamese chicken noodle soup tonight and tried it at Pho Restaurant in Reno. I liked this photo a lot more than the soup itself. ;) The chicken was not as tender as I was hoping so I left most of it. The broth was pretty decent. There's another Pho house near the strip somewhere on 2nd Street and Virginia but it's hard to find parking there so I'll try them if I come back to Nevada again.

Passive Security System

What does "passive" mean exactly?

Do you think "passive security system" refers to the door locks?
